Peter Stormare ( Prison Break, Fargo) shines as The Analyst, a creepy fellow who appears between levels to screw with your mind. They're played by a number of notable Hollywood actors, including Hayden Panettiere ( Heroes, Nashville) and Rami Malek ( The Pacific, Night at the Museum). The characters are pretty realistic in terms of their appearance, mannerisms, and voice acting. The story was written in collaboration with famed horror personalities who enjoy a cult-like following: Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick.

It's a Horror Movie, Not a Horror Game The most noteworthy elements of Until Dawn are the story and the acting, both of which do a great job of building suspense. The decisions affect the outcome of the game, and you choose who lives or dies. You alternate playing as the eight different characters and making decisions for them. When they're reunited with the group, do you push the right thumbstick to the left to choose to ignore the situation, or push it to the right to confront them? If you confront them, you won't be able to count on the ex-boyfriend to help you later in the game. Until Dawn leverages the technique very well, as it forces you to rapidly make multitudes of small, seemingly inconsequential decisions that later become important in shaping the game's narrative.įor example, you see your girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend in each other's' arms.

This has been touched upon in other games such as Second Sight and Resident Evil 2, and perhaps most notably in Marvel: Avengers Alliance where Bishop goes back in time to kill Sin only to change the future into one where HYDRA team up with the Sentinels to rid the world of mutants. The idea is that a small change at one point in time can have a huge impact later on. As Subtle as the Flapping of a Butterfly's WingsUntil Dawn's gameplay revolves around the decisions you make and an element called The Butterfly Effect.
